One Month of Nexus Thoughts from an Ex-Nokia Users Perspective

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Stefan Constantinescu over at IntoMobile has been using his Nexus for the last month and has written a real nice, informative summary of his experience with the new device.  One thing I definitely agree with is the missing hardware buttons... I miss them.  He has a lot more to say in his review though. I’ve been using the Google Nexus One exclusively since February 10th, and after one month of getting to know most, if not all, of the capabilities of my shiny new toy, I figure it’s time to share some thoughts about the device itself, and ...

Rumor: T-Mobile US training employees on HTC Desire?

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010
HTC Desire 540x446

It's really confusing me now. First we heard that the HTC Desire will hit AT&T in May/June period, and now, according to Androincia, a manager at a T-Mobile USA store was being trained on several phones that are coming to the carrier this year, and the HTC Desire is on the list. They also said that they contact other T-Mobile employees and they said that their manager's are off for training. Does this mean the HTC Desire will hit T-Mobile soon? It's a rumor but i can see the truth in it. The Desire is almost similar to the Nexus One but ...

Rumor: HTC Incredible to replace Droid Eris at Verizon?

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010
HTC Incredible

I'm not sure if this is good news or bad news.  You'll have to make that decision.  I'm just sharing it you.  According to a reliable source at Berryscoop, the HTC Incredible will be replacing the HTC Droid Eris at Verizon Wireless. The Droid Eris will be discontinued from April 1st and the HTC Incredible will be released on Verizon Wireless on the same day. Berryscoop also said that Verizon is viewing the Incredible as their version of the Nexus One. Are you kidding me? It's not confirm yet so don't take it seriously. Stay tuned for more information as we find out the ...

5 Star Review: NexusMod Live Wallpaper by Chris Soyars

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

This new live wallpaper by Chris Soyars is available in the Android Market now. It is a modified version of the stock Nexus One live wallpaper. With the help of Cyanogen, who offered his genius for bug fixes and such, Chris has released one of the sexiest live wallpapers thus far. He has included an optional darker background and 6 vibrant colorschemes to choose from: Dust (above right and my personal favorite), Nexus, SexyNexus (above center), CyanogenMod (above left), Candy and Zion. It runs incredibly smooth with no force closes or lag. This isn't just for Nexus One owners. It ...

Linpack Wars – Battle of the Androids…update and more

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

The boys have done it again and the Nexus One, more specifically, TheDudesAndroid's JP1, is moving up the Linpack Android Top 10. For the past few days, certain members of the Android development community have been pushing the limits of the Nexus One to see just how super this "superphone" is. During their first round of attempts, the JP1 made it to the #10 spot with a Mflops score of 22.186. Yesterday, Android developer Chris Soyars blogged about their most recent victory: the JP1 has rested it's tired feet in the #7 spot knocking a few Droids down the charts and tying ...

@kmobs is one bad mutha...shut yo mouth! Thanks to his kernel and some stupidly brave souls, @WootRoot, @TheDudesAndroid and @Acsteffy87, the Nexus One has made it to the top 10 in Linpack results. 10. thedude 22.186 Nexus One/ cm50b3/kmobs kernel 1267.2MHz google/passion/passion/mahimahi:2.1/ERD79/22607:user/release-keys/kmobs With a MFLOP/s result of 22.186 and overclocked to 1267.2MHz, @TheDudesAndroid's Nexus One is now the 10th fastest device on the charts. His "JesusONE" is the only Nexus that was able to overclock this high. There is no explanation as to why yet. Is anyone still questioning the potential of Android? For those of you who are unfamiliar, Linpack benchmarks are a ...

Flash 10.1 to be supported on select devices

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Not all current generation phones will be able to use Flash 10.1 for Android once it is released in the next few months, but we had a suspicion that would be the case.  Though Flash has been seen working as a prototype on the G1 and had some support on the Hero, an Adobe forums post reveals that not all Android phone models will be supported. In response to a question about Adobe’s roadmap, an Adobe employee stated that Flash would begin appearing on Android phones “mid-year.” That employee also dropped this bombshell: “The HTC Hero will not be supported [because] it does not have ...

Nexus One coming to UK via Vodafone?

Sunday, February 28th, 2010
Nexus One

T- Mobile USA was the first mobile carrier to launch the Nexus One. And rumor has it that the CDMA version of Nexus One is coming to Verizon March 23rd. And now it looks like the Nexus One is going international. Telegraph.co.uk has reported that the Nexus One will be launching in the UK via Vodafone, and of course, on sale through Google.com/phone only. The British news site hasn’t named actual sources but says that those close to both companies have confirmed an April launch. As you guys may know, Vodafone owns 45% of Verizon Wireless. So it would seem only ...

FCC approves the Verizon Nexus One (CDMA)?

Friday, February 26th, 2010
verizon n1

When Google officially launched the Nexus One on T-Mobile's network, they said that they will also bring the Nexus One to Verizon. I think Google is going to fulfill this promise soon. The FCC has approved a CDMA HTC handset. The model name is PB99300. As some of you already know, the model number of Nexus One that runs on T-Mobile frequencies is PB99100. We're thinking the small difference in the model numbers could mean this new handset is the CDMA version of the Nexus One. It has not been confirmed when a Verizon-ready Nexus One will be available or ...

Battery Performance with Flash Player 10.1 on Nexus One

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

It appears that there has been some confusion from the community at large surrounding battery performance. This was caused by my colleague Michael Chaize publishing an amazing video of Flash Player 10.1 demos on Vimeo. Bloggers from Daring Fireball and Macgasm have spent a little more time than expected studying the battery indicators, as opposed to the incredible advancements in web browsing for mobile phones, netbooks and tablets.  To be clear, the battery indicator changes being discussed are a function of video editing and Android design. Typically these indicators are 4 step graphics, ...

Effect of Flash on Nexus One.

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

After the announcement of Flash 10.1 on the Nexus One almost everyone in the Android community got really excited (and they still are), but we still didn't know how flash would affect the phones battery life. Well, the flash team at Adobe has decided to take it upon themselves to test the effect of flash on the Nexus. They have tested the effects of different configurations (i.e., 3G, Brightness, Bluetooth) to find the effects off all settings plus flash on battery life, and have reported over 3 hours of video play back over wifi. I know this may not seem like much time, but I'm sure most ...

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

The last time we talked about HTC Incredible, it was rumored to be heading to Verizon. Well, that rumor is now fact and camping out in Verizon's inventory log. The exact specs are still unknown, but here's a bit of what you can look forward to: Android 2.1 Sense UI 1gHz Snapdragon processor 3.7" WVGA screen Dual flash Optical mouse It's also worth noting that the Nexus One, also coming to Verizon, is not on the list yet. Google scraps China leg of Nexus One tour

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Google will introduce the sleek touchscreen phone to software developers in Hong Kong and Taiwan next week, but will not stage a similar event in Beijing as developers were originally expecting, said a source close to the company, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the situation's sensitivity. "If Google did not have such an issue with the Chinese government, they would have conducted a similar event in China too," said the source. In January, Google threatened to shut its Chinese Google.cn portal and pull back from China, citing problems of censorship and a hacking attack from within the country. Shortly after it ...

Farmville running on Nexus One

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
FarmVille on Nexus One

Farmville is one of the most popular game on Facebook. The game has 75.2 million active users and over 18.1 million fans in January 2010 . That's really a huge amount. Taimur Asad of Redmond Pie has been playing farmville with the HTC Desire ROM on his Nexus One . But i saw the video, the game is not working properly but it is working.  As you may know that the Desire ROM features Adobe Flash Player 10.1. You guys can try this game on your Nexus One by using HTC Desire ROM. "Can Your iPhone do that?". But i will ...

Desire vs Nexus One – The Two Monsters

Monday, February 22nd, 2010
htc desire hands on 02 540x373

OK guys lets talk about the Android Monsters, which would include none other than the HTC Desire and the Nexus One. HTC Desire is known as the brother of the Nexus One. There is not a big difference between both devices, the Desire comes with optical trackball unlike Nexus One, and The Desire also has 64 more MB’s of RAM then the Nexus One. The Desire lacks both the active noise cancellation and the triband HSDPA/WCDMA, however these features are available in the Nexus One. I think that the Desire is simply a Nexus One for UK market.  The desire ...

MoDaCo HTC Sense ROM for Nexus One: Screen Shot of the Day

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

I've been running the MoDaCo HTC Sense (Desire) Alpha 7 for the last day and I have to say that it amazingly nice, smooth and fairly stable.  There are some minor issues but nothing that distracts from the overall experience. Paul over at MoDaCo has done an amazing job with this ROM and I just had to post the screen shot above because it's so cool.  I know it's not the same when it's not animated but trust me, it's snowing here and the weather changed to show this.  When I wok my phone from sleep mode snow started falling down ...

CyanogenMod v5.0.3.1 for Google Nexus One

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

CyaogenMOD v5.0.3.1 for Google Nexus One has been released from Cyanogen and is available on AndroidSPIN.  This latest release has some small bug fixes for the USB Tether problems and the Kernel has been shrunk down a little.  It sounds like the Kernel was too bog to fit on some devices. CHANGELOG ---- 5.0.3.1-N1 * Slimmed down kernel by building IPv6 as a module- seems to be too large for some devices * Fixed USB tethering Head over to Cyanogen's AndroidSPIN Developer Homepage for more information and downloads

Modaco Desire ROM with SENSE UI for Nexus One

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Modaco has released ( and is continually releasing ) a new ROM for the Google Nexus One converted from the new HTC Desire with the Sense UI.  The ROM is still in alpha testing but updates are coming fast and furious.  As of writing this post, the latest release was Alpha 6 but I expect to change very quickly. Because this release is being changed so frequently, I'm not going to mirror the latest release on AndroidSPIN until it settles down a bit. Known Issues (all being investigated) Ringtone list not appearing Reported random reboots Bluetooth search discovers no devices Changelog Alpha 6 Changes to ...

I haven't been through the forums yet to see the users reactions to this latest release but I'll be sure to keep you posted as I find out more.
