Motorola i1 will be a “Non-Google” handset, Opera Mini will be default

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

The guys over at Engadget have some news on the Motorola i1. Also known as Opus One. Apparently the i1 will come equipped with a 5MP camera and not the previously mentioned 3MP. It's also rumored to have Opera Mini as the default browser. This is another of Motorola's Android powered (Blur) devices sans Google. Will this be a trend in their future releases? It looks as though the handset will be launched in the near future for Sprint Direct Connect and Boost Mobile customers. Let us know what you think. Leave a comment. Source: Engadget

Inventor of the Cell Phone Joins the Android Community.

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

It has been confirmed by CSPAN that Martin Cooper, the inventor of the cell phone, is an official member of the Android Community. You can follow Martin on Twitter, his twitter ID is @MartyMobile. Martin gave his iPhone to his grandson in favor of a Motorola Droid. Good move Martin! What better of an endorsement to the Android Community than the inventor of the cell phone picking up an Android phone. I wonder if Martin's phone is rooted? Could he be running the latest 2.1 custom ROM all theme'd out? The big question now is, will Martin dump his Motorola Droid when the Nexus ...

Motorola Backflip: The backlash bellyflop of shame

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Oh AT&T, you're like that passive-aggressive friend that claims to be your buddy, but tells everyone what a loser you are behind your back.  You're about as useful as an ice cube in a blizzard. You chose what is being called the worst Android phone in the U.S., all the while proclaiming it's revolutionary design.  I suppose this is technically true, though as we all know, newer isn't always better. Flashy on the outside, Android 1.5 on the inside.  Next you strip out Google search, only to replace it with an engine nobody uses.  This isn't entirely true, I'm sure plenty of ...

Hands on with the tasty Motorola Devour

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

The guys over at AndroidCentral got their hands on the new Android from Motorola and here's their initial thoughts: The Motorola Devour (running Android 1.6 with Motoblur on Verizon) made its here this morning, and we've had a couple minutes to give it the what-for. Despite playing second fiddle to the Motorola Droid at least as far as specs are concerned -- smaller screen, less powerful processor, etc. -- it's a very well-crafted smartphone. The Devour has a Sidekick-esqe form factor. Instead of the keyboard sliding out, the screen slides up to expose four rows on which to type. Having letters on either ...

ME600 rips Motorola Backflip down to its shivering Blur skin

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

There are many of us simple humans who "just don't get" the Motorola Backflip. Their poor minds can't fathom this oddest of twists on the QWERTY flip, and now here comes the "MOTOROIA" ME600 from Shenzhen to wrap their brain into ever more elaborate pretzel knots. The phone is a pretty faithful reproduction, but it's a bit thicker, has a mere VGA camera, and doesn't run Android -- despite that hint of Blur on the home screen. Source: Engadget

Hands-On Video of the Motorola Cliq XT

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Android Central has released a video of the Motorola Cliq XT for the MWC over in Spain. The Moto Cliq XT seems to be what the MyTouch3G is to the G1, a keyboard-less slightly upgraded phone. If you like Motoblur, but hate the keyboard on the Moto Cliq, this is your phone. Be sure to check out this phone hitting T-Mobile in the upcoming weeks. [via Android Central]

UPDATED – Motorola Droid NOT getting 2.1 update this week…OOPS

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Bad news for you Droid owners. It appears as though someone at Motorola made a boo-boo and you will NOT be receiving the rumored 2.1 update this week.  Sorry guys and gals. The forums manager, Matt, posted that the information was prematurely released and they are embarrassed. BGR also found that "the Droid update page on Motorola’s website has been pulled and all links to the update page have been deleted from the forums." Care to explain, Motorola? Hmmmm? Source: Boy Genius Report UPDATE: Sorry folks. Appears there was some confusion in what Matt was actually referring to in his post. Looks like ...

Motorola DEVOUR to launch early?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

The Motorola Devour is the new Android handset that got to spend time in the bathtub with Megan Fox. Yes, even I'm jealous. Verizon Wireless officially announced the Devour last week and it's supposed to launch in March. But the guys and gals over at PhoneArena received a tip that the handset will launch early thru VZW's Indirect Channel, on February 25th. This information has yet to be confirmed but I know you guys thrive on rumors and leaks. ;) The handset should be on sale thru all channels by March 15th. Source: Phone Arena

Google Maps Now 3.4.0, MT Added for Droid!

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

Droid users have a reason to rejoice! Google has released Google Maps version 3.4.0 into the market with updated pinch to zoom for presumably phones running 2.x+. G1 and MyTouch users can pick up the new version, but have no access to the pinch to zoom and unfortunately still have to rely on hacking to achieve mutlitouch in apps (sorry guys). So get on it Droid users and get some super cool pinch to zoom action on your phones.

More Zeppelin anyone? This time with a little Android…

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Yeah, I wish I was referring to Led Zeppelin too. Gizmodo Brasil got some one on one time with a homely Motorola Zeppelin prototype. We can now confirm that it's been fitted with Android in the form of Blur...but allegedly running Cupcake? As if the tiny HVGA display wasn't enough of an eyesore. I do have to say these new images look less like a sardine can, so I take that back.  :-P But the handset definitely belongs on the lower end of the Android smartphone spectrum. No word on which carrier the Zeppelin is going to yet. Source: Gizmodo via Gizmodo ...

Android fisticuffs…FUN!

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Six Android handsets enter, One handset leaves. Yes, that was a Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome reference, so?  :-P Meet the contenders (clockwise above): MyTouch 3G, HTC Hero, Motorola Milestone/Droid, Acer Liquid, Nexus One, and the Samsung Galaxy. These six handsets were forced into a battle of display quality by the guys over at AndroidHD. And I have to agree with Engadget, the very appropriately named Nexus One looks like the #1 to me. It's got that 3.7-inch AMOLED display and 800 x 480 pixel resolution and it's kicking ass and taking names. Engadget is also right when they say the N1 display ...

Motorola Prototype – Hands on

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

We just got our a hands on a Motorola "Calgary" for a few moments.  It is supposed to be launched to Verizon within the next 2 months, per our source with Motorola Blur as the OS. It has a lot of features like the Sidekick slide in design. It feels very solid and is all metal. We are unsure if the device will launch being metal as this is a prototype.  Also from our source we have been told Motorola has some tricks up it sleeves. They are soon to be launching devices with infrared that will allow you to ...

Motorola leaks an update to cliq users!!!

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Motorola is reported to have accidentally leaked an update for its Motorola (NYSE: MOT) CLIQ today. According to Eric Zeman over at PhoneScoop, the 1.3.8 software update was available for about 15 minutes, before going back into hiding. The leaked update follows an official CLIQ software update that improved battery life, touchscreen accuracy, and cellular connectivity on the Android-powered smartphone last month. We have no idea what this rumored update entails, or even if the alleged leak was in fact pushed out to some 600 users, but it’s interesting that Motorola themselves let the software slip out. Have you been blessed ...
